First Orbit – a New Yuri Gagarin Film
Dr Christopher Riley has released a new film using old footage of Yuri Gagarin spliced together with new footage of the path he would have followed – and now has a big hit on his hands.
There is a new online film sensation, and this time it is not some pirated version of the latest Hollywood blockbuster but a fantastic look at the voyage that Yuri Gagarin took 50 years ago when he became the first man in space. The movie is free to watch and already has over 2 million views!
The ‘current’ footage was filmed about the International Space Station which changed it’s orbit to follow the famous path first taken by Gagarin. This allows us to see what he would have seen – although we do get to see the moon which is something he famously missed on his own trip into space.
The film combines old footage of Gagrain with never before released audio of his trip. This is coupled with the fantastic new footage as shot from the ISS and an amazing score by composer Philip Shepperd. The film itself was created by Christopher riley, a British writer, broadcaster and film maker.
Check out the video below. It is a must see for any space fans.
